How To Polish The Rough Edges Of Your Marble Reception Desk?

Inadequate maintenance, acidic ingredients or hard materials can lead to edging and chipping in marble. Fortunately, treating these issues is easy.

So, here’s how to polish the edges of your marble desk to make it smoother.

What You Need

To proceed with the polishing process, you will need

1. Safety eye goggles,

2. Old towel,

3. Old cloth,

4. Work gloves,

5. Dust masks,

6. 4-inch variable speed angle grinder

7. Sand pads of 30, 60, 100, 220, 320 and 600-grit.

Polishing The Edges Of Your Marble Reception Desk Step-By-Step

1. Start by attaching a 30-grit sanding pad to an angle grinder and use it to polish the stone reception desk. You can change the grinder settings by turning the speed functions as per your needs. Ensure you have proper control of the tool to prevent grinding the marble too quickly.

2. Place the pad carefully on your marble reception desk, ensuring it comes into direct contact with the stone surface. Adjust the angle to fit the edge of the stone as convenient.

3. Put slight pressure on the pad while moving it over the custom reception desk’s surface in a circular motion.

4. Once you can get a proper hold of the grinder and its speed, you can slowly increase the rotation speed.

5. Use the 3-grit pad to create a smoother rounded shape or give it a bullnose edge.

6. After that, turn the grinder off and set the 60-grit pad, replacing the 30-grit pad, for the second pass. Change to a finer grit with each pass. Depending on how polished you want the stone to be, use the 100-grit pad for the next and the 220-grit pad for the fourth pass.

7. Keep switching the pads until you get the desired results. Also, you can increase the speed of your grinder with every pass. It will be ideal for a more polished finish.

Remember These Tips When Polishing Marble Desk Edges

1. Use an old cloth or towel to dust off the marble particles in between the polishing process to reduce the risk of scratches and get a good look at the polished marble.

2. You can buy polishing kits with angle grinders and different grit pads to save money instead of buying every piece individually.

3. Carefully read the kit's manual to learn the specific ways to utilise a grinder and pads.

Bottom Line

So, this is how you use a polishing kit to smoothen out the edges of a marble reception desk. If you are inexperienced with grinders and pads, it’s best to take help from a professional instead of doing it yourself. Otherwise, even the slightest mistake with a grinder can leave irreversible damage on your marble desk.
